The Role of Navigators in Helping Individuals Access College and Succeed as Students

by Deborah Richie / Mar 14, 2016

Community and technical colleges around the country with Department of Labor TAACCCT funding have created or expanded the position of navigator to support the success of students. In its latest Strategy Brief, TCI describes the work of navigators in the Gulf Coast IT Consortium, which included nine community and technical colleges in Louisiana and Mississippi.  In this consortium, navigators provided a number of critical services, including the focus on college access.  Navigators worked with prospects to help them better understand the process of becoming a college student, along with the academic programs, job markets, and the process through which a student might receive credit for prior experience or work-based learning.  Once enrolled, the navigator served as the one-stop resource for students throughout their experience.

For more information on the Gulf Coast IT Consortium,  see the brief Using Navigators to Support Student Success.
