Dr. Nadrea R. Njoku is a senior research associate in the Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute at the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Her research is centered in a critical race and feminist framework and explores African-American women in higher education, historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), gender, and student development theory. Dr. Njoku's recent and forthcoming publications explore topics that include the constructed campus environments of HBCUs and their impact on students' developing ideas of gender performance, the multiple constructions of black womanhood in the postsecondary context, and the use of sister circles and interpersonal relationships in supporting black women in graduate school. Dr. Njoku is the co-editor of an issue of the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, which explores the intersections of race and higher education and highlights the work of emerging scholars in the fields of student affairs and higher education. She holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Louisiana and a master's degree and doctorate from Indiana University.
